April Werle paints whimsically absurd tableaus of disembodied black-and-white hands in intimate, cartoonish settings. Within nostalgic imagery are anonymous figures searching for belonging in environments where they clearly stand out. Reimagining poignant quotes from her rural Filipino American family, Werle examines how mixed-race individuals and multicultural families navigate the complex dynamics of bringing cultures together.
